Finding the right sport for your child
Sport is a great way for children to make friends, build confidence and burn off energy. Luxembourg has a wide network of local clubs, many of them affiliated with national sports federations, covering everything from football and basketball to judo, gymnastics and athletics. Many communes also run their own sports courses for children, and primary school pupils can often join after-school sport through LASEP.
When choosing a club or coach, visit a training session first and watch how the coaches speak to the children. Ask about group sizes, the training schedule, the season fees and what equipment you will need to buy. Check whether the focus is on fun and taking part or on competition, and pick what fits your child's age and temperament. Some clubs ask for a medical certificate before a child can train or compete, so ask early. Most importantly, let your child try a few activities before committing to a full season.
