Société Luxembourgeoise de Pédiatrie: find a paediatrician
The Luxembourg Paediatric Society, which brings together paediatricians in private practice and hospitals, publishes a public list of paediatricians with practice addresses and phone numbers across the country. Its site also lists where to take a child for urgent care out of hours.
Choosing a paediatrician
A paediatrician you trust makes the early years much easier. In Luxembourg you are free to choose your child's doctor, and consultations for children under 18 are reimbursed at 100% of the official rate by the national health insurance (CNS). Paediatricians follow your child's growth and development, carry out check-ups and vaccinations, and are the first person to call when your child is unwell.
When choosing a practice, think about location, opening hours and how easy it is to get an appointment when your child is sick. Ask which languages the doctor speaks and whether the practice keeps slots free for urgent cases. Bring your child's vaccination record and health booklet to every visit. Outside opening hours, the paediatric out-of-hours clinic (Maison Médicale Pédiatrique) at the Kannerklinik of the Centre Hospitalier de Luxembourg (CHL) sees children for non-urgent care in the evening, and the Kannerklinik's paediatric emergency service is open 24/7. In an emergency, always call 112. It also helps to find a paediatrician before your baby is born or soon after you move, so you are not searching when you need one most.
