Hiring help for your home and garden
Family homes need regular care, from a fresh coat of paint in the children's room to a garden that is safe to play in. When you hire a painter, decorator or gardener, ask for a written quote that lists the work, materials and timing, and compare two or three offers.
In Luxembourg, most tradespeople need a business permit (autorisation d'établissement), so it is fair to ask for their business details and whether they are insured for damage to your property. Photos of previous work and references from neighbours are a good sign. With young children at home, ask for low-emission paints and make sure a freshly painted room is well aired before anyone sleeps in it. For garden work, agree on how green waste will be removed, since collection rules depend on your commune. If you live in a flat, check your building's rules on renovation work and quiet hours before booking. Clear agreements up front make the job smoother for everyone.
