    Choosing a babysitter in Luxembourg

A good babysitter gives you a few hours off and gives your children someone they look forward to seeing. Before you book, meet the sitter in person, ideally with your children, and ask about their experience with kids of the same age. References from other families are worth checking, and a first-aid course for babies and children is a real plus.

Language matters in Luxembourg. Many families look for a sitter who speaks Luxembourgish, French, German or English, or the language spoken at home. Agree on the practical things up front: hourly rate, bedtime routine, screen time, allergies and who to call in an emergency (112 in Luxembourg). If you employ a babysitter directly, even for a few hours, check your obligations as a household employer with the Centre commun de la sécurité sociale (CCSS). For regular childcare during working hours, you can also look at parental assistants (assistants parentaux), who are approved by the Ministry of Education, Children and Youth and can take part in the chèque-service accueil (CSA) scheme.

    Ministry-approved parental assistants (assistants parentaux)

In Luxembourg, parental assistants are childminders approved by the Ministry of Education, Children and Youth. Approved assistants can take part in the chèque-service accueil (CSA) scheme, and families can find them through the official list and map.

If you employ a babysitter or parental assistant directly, check your obligations as a household employer with the CCSS.
